Learning how to effectively communicate to elementary school students

2020.12.08

On December 7, 14 third-grade students of Ichinoseki Kogyo High School in Hagisho, Ichinoseki City, took a class on the International Linear Collider (ILC). The objective of the class was to find ways to convey the significance of the ILC to elementary school students.

Satomi Fujisaki, an ILC Lecturer with the Morioka Regional Development Bureau (48), who is also a technical specialist at Iwate University, explained the outline of the ILC. In regards to how to proceed with the lessons for children, she advised that it is important to formulate the introduction to stimulate curiosity and convey information through pictures and figures.

Students were divided into 3 groups and made teaching materials such as slides. Kai Hoozawa of the electronics department, who will explain [to the students] the relationship between programming class [and the ILC], said, "I want to organize the main points and convey them in simple terms." The students will present a science class focusing on the ILC to the 5th and 6th grade science classes of Maikawa Elementary School.
