Ichinoseki and the
International Linear Collider
Ichinoseki City, located in the Tohoku region of Japan, is actively supporting the International Linear Collider (ILC),
a world-leading particle physics facility, as the area has been identified as a candidate site.
Working closely with the Tohoku ILC Promotion Council, the Iwate Prefecture International Linear Collider Promotion Council, Iwate Prefecture, surrounding municipalities, and other related organizations, the city is advocating to the national government for the early realization of the ILC, while also planning for future urban development in anticipation of its eventual implementation.
Since 2011, Ichinoseki City has been carrying out initiatives to raise public awareness, promote international exchange, and nurture talent for the next generation, in preparation for the ILC.
These initiatives include special ILC lessons and advanced science programs for junior high students, the Ichinoseki Science Café, publication of ILC NEWS, information sharing via the city website, and the appointment of internationalization promotion staff.
