Elementary school students show off ILC flags in Ichinoseki

Twenty-two students in the sixth grade at Okutama Elementary School showed off flags on Sunday that they made in support of the International Linear Collider (ILC) and to commemorate their upcoming graduation.

The flags, standing 180 cm tall and 60 cm wide, were made by the students in pairs and feature hand-drawn pictures related to the ILC, as well as messages hoping it is built.

Mayor of Ichinoseki City, Mr Osamu Katsube, attended the unveiling ceremony at the school in Senmaya in Ichinoseki’s east, and said: “I want to display these at a conference scheduled for April with researchers from abroad,” expressing his intention to make prompt use of the flags.

Ms Hina Yoshida, one of the sixth-grade students, said: “I want secrets of the universe to be solved with the ILC.”

The flags are expected to further accelerate the drive to bring the ILC to fruition.
