During the summer vacation, young residents of Ichinoseki tried their hand at programming devices to move as intended, and deepened their understanding of the mechanism.

High school students meet to exchange results

On February 19th, students from eight prefectural high schools gathered at the Iwate Prefectural Office to exchange their FY2019 research project results on the theme of the next-generation large-scale accelerator, the International Linear Collider (ILC), which aims to be hosted in the Kitakami Mountains. Students discussed results of their efforts and shared their dreams about a future where the ILC is built in Iwate Prefecture.

Seeking cooperation from the parliament, a request to Chairman Kawamura

In the bid to realize the next generation large-scale accelerator, the "International Linear Collider (ILC)", affiliated organizations of Ichinoseki City, Oshu City and Northern Miyagi prefecture requested cooperation to realize the ILC from the non-partisan Federation of Diet Members for the ILC and LDP executives on the 4th of June in Tokyo.

On the 28th of March, graduates of Ichinoseki Daiichi High School, Hironobu Asari (sophomore at Iwate Medical University) and Ryota Konno (sophomore at Tohoku University) presented signatures of 5,664 people to Hon. Masahiko Shibayama of the Ministery of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to show support towards the realization of the International Linear Collider (ILC).

Meeting of ILC Promotion Model Schools in Morioka

On the 19th, the prefecture invited student representatives from ILC Promotion Model Schools to a gathering at the Iwate Industrial Research Institute in Morioka City for the first time. Around 50 students presented the results of their projects that they had worked on throughout the year and demonstrated how actively involved they are toward attracting the ILC. Six of the eight designated prefectural high schools participated.

Ichinoseki Daini High School (Akaogi, Ichinoseki City) held the final installment of the seminar, "Thinking about the future of this region" on December 4th. Following previous sessions where first year students discussed how to develop Ichinoseki in preparation for the International Linear Collider (ILC), students designed posters envisioning what Ichinoseki would look like if the ILC was built and presented the efforts necessary for making life in Ichinoseki accommodating to everyone.

A seminar (organized by Ichinoseki City) reporting on the recent activities to invite the International Linear Collider (ILC) research facility to the Kitakami Mountains (Kitakami Highlands) of Iwate Prefecture will be held at Bellino Hotel on the 21st of June from 2pm.

Building momentum in younger generations

In order to build momentum for the realization of the ILC, Ichinoseki City created a pamphlet aimed at young audiences called ‘I see! ILC! Teach me Dr. Higgs’. The pamphlet is a collection from a popular column published in the Ichinoseki Linear Collider Newsletter ‘ILC News’ that communicates science in an easy-to-understand way and to encourage further interest in the ILC.

February 20th kicked off a three-day international conference, “ILD Meeting 2018” at Ichinoseki Cultural Center.  The International Large Detector (ILD) will be one of the detectors used to carry out ILC research. 63 researchers from around the world, participated in an exchange of opinions.
